RECOL is a computer that aids the bridge engineer in designing reinforcedconcrete columns using the theory of ultimate strength. The programcomputes the ultimate axial force and corresponding biaxial bendingmoments. Input is facilitated by use of standard geometrical columnshapes and standard rebar patterns. Columns having any arbitrarysymmetrical shape, including voids, can also be analyzed and designed.Moment magnification for slenderness is determined using AASHTOprocedures. Column spiral reinforcement to develop plastic hinges inaccordance with AASHTO or CALTRANS is also included.The program can be used to determine the amount of reinforcing steelrequired for controlling AASHTO group loadings, to check the adequacy ofa column subjected to a specific group loading, or to compute thecoordinates of interaction surfaces.
